5 Minutes for Mom

Christian Work At Home Moms

Everyone likes to know a little about the person/business they are ordering from.

Smelly Good Stuffs came about from a desire to be able to help my husband with his business full time and not have a 2nd full time job as well. I asked my co-workers what they thought the town needed. After several days of us discussing it at work we came up with the idea of an incense shop. This was sometime in 2004. My next questions for them were what kind of incense? What scent? The only answer my co-worker (who originally had the idea) came up with was "rain", which was his favorite scent. He didn't know a brand or anything else. Running it by my husband we thought that incense, since it is consumable, would be a nice addition to the shop. We made our first order and got as many "rain" scents as we could find. None were what my co-worker wanted, but be purchased incense anyway. (We finally found the "rain" scent he was looking for in August of 2006.) As people heard about the new incense shop in town, we started asking our customers what their favorite scent/brand was. That is partially how we have built our business over the past 4 years. Another great way to build a business is trying new things because you need a few extra things to fill an order. Some of those "filler items" have become our current customers new favorites. WOW! There is a lot of incense out there! We didn't know just how much there was available when we first got started. We don't sell your typical Dollar Store incense. What we sell is good quality, excellent smelling stuff. Most of the incense we sell is made in India. We do sell some incense made in the USA. We boast having the largest incense shop in SE Kansas. To our knowledge there aren't any incense shops with a large selection within at least 60 miles or farther.

Smelly Good Stuffs went online in 2006 selling all the incense products we stock in our brick & mortar store.

The end of October 2008 we moved both stores (Steve's Lock Out and Smelly Good Stuffs) to a larger location.

Just a little more before you go. We are a Christian Homeschooling Family. Our boys (pictured in the above picture) have always been home educated and they are a valuable part of our business. Hubby is a full time locksmith. He is mobile as well as us having the brick & mortar store. Our small, but growing, mom & pop business is our life. We outgrew our origional location, and moved to a much larger location in a better location. We recycle as much of our packaging as we can to help keep waste and cost to a minimum. We wouldn't change what we do for anything.
